Jim Blower

After a full career in the British Army (Royal Engineers) carrying out construction, maintenance and engineering roles around the world, Facilities Management was a natural vocation for Jim to begin my second career.

Over the last 10 years, Jim has worked in two different Further Education Colleges in the region, being fortunate enough be able to lead a full campus-wide multi-phase redevelopment programme at a Land-Based Campus in Durham. He was also a Staff Governor at East Durham College, a role which allowed him to observe and participate in defining strategic direction for the college and to add support and challenge to the leadership team. This role also gave Jim the desire to share his skills and experience in a wider capacity across the educational sector.

Jim is currently the Director of Estates and Facilities Management at the Gosforth Federated Academies Multi-Academy Trust where he is responsible for the strategic facilities direction of a growing multi-academy trust. It is an always-evolving role that provides a personal challenge for Jim. His passion is for the built environment, and how the physical infrastructure can change outcomes within schools, colleges and the local community. Jim strives to improve the classroom environment for both students and staff, and to support the fantastic work carried out by curriculum colleagues.

Outside of work, I am a keen football supporter (I won’t say which team!) and love spending time with my family and dogs Sasha, Sadie and Mac.
