Recently our Year 9 students had the opportunity to encounter members of different faiths and world views as part of Interfaith Day.
We were delighted to welcome seven guest speakers into our school to provide insight to our students on their faiths and worldviews. Our students were able to develop questions, critically think and analyse, and bring the outcome to a panel discussion where our guests could respond.
A big thank you to our speakers, Wendy Gray (Buddhist), Mahshid Turner (Muslim), Kirtida Richardson (Hindu), Jaswinder Singh (Sikh), Sue White (Anglican, Christian), Carol Spencer (Baha’i) and Susan Walker (Humanist).
Mr Welch, our RE subject leader, noted: "I was amazed by how respectfully our students conducted themselves and the real thought-provoking questions they asked which showed a high level of analysis and reflection throughout the day. I find this a very valuable opportunity for them to encounter religion and worldviews and will continue to make it a part of our strong RE curriculum."
Having mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith is a fundamental part of our British Values. Opportunities like this seek to prepare our students to be more aware of their local and regional community as well as become global citizens accepting and celebrating diversity.
