February Head of Year Awards

Well done to the two students in each year group who have achieved the prestigious Head of Year Award for February. 

At the end of every month, our Heads of Year choose two students from their year group to win an award. The winners get the honour of being on the website and also a prize of their choice; varying from privileges in school (such as a dedicated spot on the astroturf) to a free stationery supply. 

Well done to our February winners detailed below.

Year 7

Eden is a fantastic student who always upholds the values of the school. She always gives 100% to all of her lessons and demonstrates excellent behaviour for learning. She is an excellent role model for her peers and she has received recognition in maths and PE with subject lapel pins. Eden is a very talented footballer and is an active member of the school football team, she was also selected for the District Team this year. Well done Eden. 

Olly is a hard working student who is always smiling and is an excellent role model to his peers. Olly always gives his best in lessons and his hard work has been recognised in science and PE where he received subject lapel pins. Olly is a very talented footballer and is an active member of the school football team, he was also selected for the District Team this year. Well done Olly - keep up the good work.

Year 8

Amar is a fantastic student at Hermitage. She consistently tries her hardest across all subjects and is always willing to engage in dialogue about topical issues. She is also very capable of justifying her own ideas in a respectful and mature way. Not only does she excel in lessons, she is also a polite and kind member of Year 8 with an excellent sense of humour. Well done Amar. Keep being the brilliant Hermitage student that you are.

William is joyful, happy student who is always willing to give his full effort in lessons. He is kind and helps to lift the spirits of others around him, in the classroom and during social times - which shows how good-natured and inclusive he is. William engages in all aspects of school life and excels in all that he puts his mind to. Well done William, keep up the good work and thoughtfulness for others.

Year 9 

Ruth is a true all-rounder. She applies herself to every aspect of school life with the same high levels of commitment. Ruth is a talented dancer and thrives on sport, taking part in the school football and cross country teams. Ruth was also involved in the delivery of Christmas food parcels to local residents. What makes her such a deserving winner is her ability to approach any task or person with a smile. Well done Ruth! 

Since Year 7, Eben has been awarded subject awards from a number of his teachers in all curriculum areas. Eben has been instrumental in developing the school basketball team, he is a great ambassador for the sport as he is always encouraging others to join. Eben is such a positive, good-humoured and dependable student. Well done Eben!  

Year 10

Mackenzie is an outstanding student. His commitment towards school life and his education knows no bounds. Mackenzie's attendance is almost 100%, and he always arrives at school on time, looking smart and well-equipped, ready to learn. With an exemplary behaviour report, Mackenzie is always focused in class and all his teachers are impressed with his hard work and efforts in his lessons. Mackenzie has been nominated for the Head of Year award because he contributes so much to school life and takes full advantage of our enrichment programme. He is an avid member of our Photoshop club and 'Magic the Gathering' club at lunchtimes, as well as taking part in the Drama department's upcoming 'Shakespeare Festival'. Mackenzie also didn't let the lockdown stop him from performing, he is a member of Drama club 'Activate' outside of school and takes part in regular shows and performances. It will be no surprise that Mackenzie wants to be an actor when he is older, and drama is his favourite subject. Keep up the excellent work Mackenzie.

Christian is a friendly and optimistic person, who is an absolute delight to have in the classroom. He is dedicated to his learning and is always keen to do well in every lesson. Christian has a natural flair for maths and science and has already smashed his Year 10 targets in Maths, physics and biology. He enjoys maths and physics and is excited to explore these subjects further when he finishes his GCSEs. Christian has been nominated for the Head of Year award this month not only because of hard work in school, but also his diverse and varied interests outside of the classroom, helping him become the well-rounded individual that he is. Christian is an accomplished guitar player and has weekly 'Music Works' lessons in school. He is currently working towards his Grade 6 guitar exam and he is sounding fantastic. Christian is also a keen sportsman and a black belt in Judo. A member of BBJA, Christian has also achieved his Junior Coaching award and helps train younger students at his club. he has recently also taken up table tennis and even got to the semi-finals in a recent competition. We can't wait to see what is in store for Christian next. Well done.

Year 11

Niamh is an extremely conscientious student who is working hard towards her final GCSEs. Niamh is excelling in a wide range of subjects, especially within her design and technology work, producing some phenomenal work. She is a self-motivated student and within lessons she strives to excel, she is also keen for others to achieve with her, often helping other students within lessons. Niamh is a delight to teach and we are sure that she will achieve some great GCSE results. 

Ryan is a fantastic student to have within the year group, his wit and random topics of discussion are well renowned! He strives to succeed in any task that he takes on, and always puts 100% into everything. Ryan has a wide range of talents and is as comfortable acting out a scene in performing arts, as he is in writing an essay in English and history. We are proud of Ryan's achievements within the Academy, and we are confident that he will achieve a great set of GCSE results.

Year 12

Leah has made an incredible transition into the Sixth Form community. She is a polite, well-mannered young lady who is always smiling and is a pleasure to be around. She has an incredible work ethic which she has applied across her challenging A-Level subjects. Already at this early stage, Leah has demonstrated that she is excelling within her subject areas. She is constantly seeking opportunities to further her aspirations of studying medicine at university. Leah organised a day through the half term holidays for herself and her fellow students to gain experience as a doctor. She has also actively sought out other opportunities including the Elephant Group, Mini-Med School and a seminar with a surgeon. Well done Leah you are a credit to the Sixth Form.

Archie has made a fantastic transition from GCSE level to Sixth Form. He is a very popular member of Sixth Form who gets on with his fellow students and teachers alike. Teachers of Archie comment on the high levels of academic performance he has already demonstrated in the early stages of Year 12. Outside of the classroom Archie also participates in the wider aspects of the curriculum such as debating in enrichment and five-a-side football in extra-curricular time. Overall, a fantastic start to Sixth Form. Well done Archie.

Year 13

Warrick has continued his fantastic A Level study from Year 12 into Year 13. Warrick has shown commitment and dedication to his studies. Teachers of Warrick comment on how impressed they are with the depth of Warrick's knowledge; he consistently engages in relevant subject content outside of lessons to ensure he is well prepared and up to date with current affairs. Warrick often applies his knowledge to constant changes within the news that affect his subject areas. Warrick achieved three A grades in his first partial mock period, which is a testament to his hard work. Good luck in completing the rest of your exams during the second mock period! 

Elise has made significant progress since returning in September to Year 13. Elise’s renewed commitment was visible through the development of her UCAS personal statement. Elise worked hard redrafting her personal statement, culminating in producing an extremely high-standard piece of work. Elise has mirrored this commitment in her A Level subjects where she has strived to improve on the knowledge and skills she developed during Year 12 study. Well done Elise, keep up the good work and good luck in completing your mock exams.
