Simon Westrip

Simon qualified as a mental health nurse in the 1980’s and worked in clinical practice until he moved into Higher Education at a local university teaching both student and qualified nurses.

Simon had a variety of roles that included teaching in the classroom, and curriculum development. He has been a local councillor serving in the executive and was the local champion for mental health for five years.  Simon had the privilege to become an academy governor in 2008 and has served up to the present day. He has also worked for local mental health charity serving as a board member and chair, whilst providing therapy pro bono.

Simon retired from the university in 2017 and now works 3 days a week supporting people with mental health issues as a psychotherapist. Simon finds the skills and knowledge as an educationist and therapist complement his role as a governor and has a particular interest in student welfare.
