We’re proud to share that Year 9 student Charlie has been named 'Fundraiser of the Year' for the charity Changing Faces, at a special awards ceremony in London last week.
After surviving a serious car accident at age 4 that left him with significant facial injuries, Charlie has turned his recovery into a mission to help others. Supported by Changing Faces, Charlie began fundraising at just 8 years old and has since raised over £23,000 through a series of inspiring challenges including:
- Mini Great North Run
- Daily runs totalling two marathons
- A weekend running challenge: 1.5 miles every 2 hours
- A 6-mile run from Chester-le-Street Town FC to the Angel of the North, followed by a cycle home
- And most recently, a '10 Miles for 10 Years' challenge, marking the anniversary of his accident
Charlie’s determination, resilience and compassion have touched hearts across the UK, and even caught the attention of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who presented him with a 'Points of Light' award for his fundraising efforts. Charlie and his parents also shared their story with our local MP, Luke Akehurst, as he offered to support Charlie's efforts by talking in Parliament about the Changing Faces charity and the work Charlie has been doing.
Charlie is a shining example of resilience, empathy and determination. You can learn more about his fundraising here: https://www.changingfaces.org.uk or via his fundraising page.
