Year 9 were moved after hearing the powerful story of Syrian refugee, Iman, after we welcomed her into school yesterday for a visit.
Iman told students about how she has been welcomed in the UK after leaving her war torn homeland. Students were able to hear first hand how Iman and her family built a new life here in County Durham.
Prior to Iman’s visit, students researched the situation in Syria and prepared questions in their PSHE lessons. Pictured are a selection of students who confidently compiled and asked some of these very thoughtful questions.
Iman’s inspirational story will help our students to understand what it is really like to be a refugee. We are very grateful to Iman, her friend Linda and Anna from the EAL team. Our students and staff were truly moved by the visit.
