A busy open evening!
23rd September 2022
Last week we were delighted to welcome plenty of Year 5 and 6 'VIPs' and their families into school for our annual open evening!
Our special visitors were greeted by our friendly sixth form leading students, whilst being entertained by five of our most talented pianists Olivia B, Caroline B, Elizabeth H, Aidan J and Max J. They were also given plenty of goodies, including a choice of book to take home. We love reading here at Hermitage Academy so we loved seeing all the wonderful choices made by Year 5 and 6 pupils.
As part of the evening, parents were given the opportunity to attend a presentation about our school values, behaviour expectations, curriculum and academic standards, in particular our high aspirations and ambition for all students.
Each presentation was full to capacity and parents on the evening stated that it was a helpful insight into the Academy’s journey and future developments; most notably our dedicated Year 7 play area.
VIP visitors then had the opportunity to tour the school with the help of our Year 11 Leadership Team, led by our Head Boy and Girl. Departments gave a flavour of the engaging and challenging activities which Year 5/6 students are likely to encounter when they come to our school. From exploration in science, to exploding volcanoes in geography and gothic escape rooms in English, all visitors on the evening appeared excited and captivated by the range of activities on offer.
Always most popular, however, is our school dining hall and this year was no exception, with students being offered a taster menu whilst also being entertained by classical guitarist, Esme W from Year 12.
Pride of place on the evening were Hermitage students themselves – with over 120 students supporting the evening’s events. There were many different roles, namely: singing in Hermitage Academy Voices, cooking a two-course meal In food technology, demonstrating sporting talent in PE, performing a music solo around the school site, or even just supporting teachers in a department area in order to show their enthusiasm for a subject they love. Hermitage Academy students will always be the greatest advocates for our school community!
